Karnataka Heritage Trail
Three days across two UNESCO-listed empires - Hampi's ruins and Badami's rock-cut caves.
Hampi and Badami are two of the most important historical sites in South India. Hampi is the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire (14th-16th century). Badami is the earlier capital of the Chalukya dynasty (6th century). Both are UNESCO World Heritage sites and reward the extra effort to get there.
Logistics
- Hubballi (HBX) is the closest airport to both Hampi and Badami.
- Hampi to Badami is roughly 3 hours by car - hire a private cab in Hampi for the day.
- Combine with Pattadakal and Aihole if you have an extra day - both are UNESCO-listed and close to Badami.
- Carry sunscreen, a hat, and at least 2 litres of water per day - shade is limited at both sites.
